At least 26 people have been killed in heavy monsoon rains in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, said local officials Thursday.
The state's Revenue Minister Gulab Singh told the state parliament in the state capital Shimla that 1,892 houses have also been damaged since the onset of monsoon early this month, while property damages are estimated at tens of millions of U.S. dollars.
The state government has released 844 million rupees (16 million U.S. dollars) as calamity relief aid to the people affected by the natural disaster.
Heavy downpour often causes flooding, landslide and building collapse during the monsoon season from August to September in northern India. |
