Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-09-18 21:31

Indonesian Minister for Politics, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto called on protesters to carry out protest peacefully on Tuesday over the anti-Islam film entitled "Innocence of Muslims".

Djoko Suyanto told a press conference that the reaction to the publicity of the film allegedly made by an American producer was not as strong as those in the Middle East.

"In general the unrest resulted from the protest against the film have been under control," he said.

"But we deplore the violence yesterday (Monday) which wounded some police," said Suyanto, adding that legal action would be taken against those law offenders.

Hundreds of members of a Muslim group Hiszbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) staged a protest in front of the U.S. Embassy here last Friday.

They said the movie insulted Islam as it mocks Muslim's Prophet Muhammad, portraying him as a womanizer and molester.

They said using freedom of expression as an excuse to produce the insulting movie cannot be justified either.

On Monday hundreds of Islamic Defender Group activists staged rally outside U.S. embassy in Jakarta, injuring 13 policemen and scores of protesters in clashes.

Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has denounced the movie for blasphemy on Islam and sparking deadly repercussion.

Indonesia has the world's largest Muslim population with 80 percent of its 240 million people being Muslims.
