At least six people were killed and 16 others still trapped under debris in a building collapse in the western Indian city of Pune in the state of Maharashtra Monday, a senior police official said.
"The mishap happened at 2:00 p.m. (local time) when the Somnath building in the Dhankavli area of the city caved in. Police and fire brigade teams have been trying to rescue those still trapped in the collapse," he said, on condition of anonymity.
While two people died on the spot, four others succumbed to their injuries on way to hospital, he said, adding that the death toll may go up.
A probe has been ordered into the incident, the official added. |
