CPN-Maoist restricts Indian movies, vehicles in Nepal

The Communist Party of Nepal- Maoist (CPN-Maoist), a faction party formed after splitting from the United CPN-Maoist has prohibited the entry of Indian registered vehicles and screening of Hindi movies in Nepali movie halls from Thursday onward.

According to CPN-Maoist spokeswoman Pumpha Bhusal, the party took the decision to this effect from Thursday in a bid to safeguard national sovereignty and integrity.

The party releasing a press statement on Wednesday stated that it would prevent all Indian vehicles to enter Nepal and screening Hindi movies which are against the sentiments of Nepali people and give promotion of vulgarity and cultural indecency.

"We cannot allow to screening those Hindi movies which breached the sentiments of Nepalese or undermines Nepali cultures," said Bhusal.

The statement stated that it will prevent all Indian number plate vehicles from entering Nepal and obstruction to screening Hindi movies so that to develop a self-reliant national economy, safeguard employment opportunities, secure Nepali investment and make easy arrangement in difficulty faced by Nepali vehicles in India.

Bhusal said those Indian vehicles that are already in Nepal will not be obstructed while returning to India.

According to Bhusal, the Tamsaling State Committee (TSC) of the party has put obstruction to Indian vehicles in 10 districts including Dhading, Makwanpur and Chitwan on Wednesday.

The CPN-Maoist on September 5 had submitted their 70-point demand, including a ban on the entry of Indian vehicles and the screening of Hindi movies to Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai.
