At least 11 people were killed when an under construction house collapsed in the western Indian city of Pune and 10 people were pulled out alive from under the debris, a senior police official said Tuesday.
The mishap happened at 2 p.m. local time Monday when the Somnath building in the Dhankavli area of the city caved in.
"Police and fire brigade teams rescued those trapped in the collapse throughout the night. While two people died on the spot, four others succumbed to their injuries on way to hospital Monday. And, early this morning, five more bodies were recovered," the official said.
A probe has been ordered into the incident, the official said, adding that those killed were construction workers.
Meanwhile, Pune Municipal Corporation has said that the building was an unauthorized construction and a notice had already been served on its owners for demolition. |
