Another ally withdraws support to India's ruling UPA gov't
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-10-01 21:19

Just two weeks after a major ally withdrew its support to the ruling Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government, another ally with only two Members of Parliament followed suit, sources said.

"The Jharkhand Vikas Morcha, led by former Chief Minister of the eastern state of Jharkhand Babulal Marandi, has withdrawn the support of its two MPs to the UPA government. It withdrew its support in protest against foreign direct investment in retail and the hike in diesel prices," the sources said.

The UPA's eastern ally, the Trinamul Congress of the state of West Bengal, led by Mamata Banerjee, withdrew its support for the same reasons.

Experts say the UPA government is, however, safe and the pullout of the two allies will not have much impact on its strength in Parliament.
