India's Solicitor General Rohinton F. Nariman, the government's top lawyer, has resigned, sources said Monday.

Nariman sent his resignation letter to Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and served a copy of the same to Indian Law Minister Ashwani Kumar, the sources said, adding that he probably quit his post because of differences with his immediate boss Kumar recently.

He was nominated for the post in July 2011.
