Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida on Monday left for Europe to discuss situation in the Korean Peninsula with his counterparts of the Group of Eight (G8) on Wednesday in a ministerial meeting in London.

The two-day G8 meeting of foreign ministers will focus on situation in Syria, Iran and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), which Japan concerns the most.

Kishida will confirm with other G8 members the importance of implementing expanded UN resolutions on the DPRK, according to local reports.

The Japanese top diplomat is also expected to meet with his Russian counterpart to discuss a territorial dispute between Tokyo and Moscow, said Japan's Kyodo News Agency.

Before attending the G8 meeting, Kishida will participate in a ministerial meeting of 10 non-nuclear countries over nonproliferation and disarmament to be held Tuesday in Hague in Holland, the first stop of Kishida's European trip.
