Pakistan will provide 1 million US dollar to typhoon-hit Philippines, the Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.
Typhoon Haiyan, the strongest in the Philippines history, lashed central parts of the country on Nov. 8 and has killed at least 3,976 people and left nearly 1,600 missing, according to the Philippines government figures updated on Monday.
"To express solidarity with the people of the Philippines, the Government of Pakistan has announced 1 million U.S.dollars as contribution to relief efforts for the calamity-hit areas," the ministry said in a statement.
"The people and the government of Pakistan are deeply grieved by the tragic loss of life and wide spread damage to the property caused by super typhoon Haiyan," it said.
Earlier, the president and the prime minister of Pakistan in their messages of sympathy assured Philippine President Benigno Aquino that the Pakistani nation stood by the people and the government of the Philippines in this hour of need.
More than 4 million people have been displaced and need food, shelter and water, the Philippines government said.
The typhoon also wrecked livelihoods on a massive scale, destroying crops, livestock, coconut plantations and fishing boats.
