The Lao government has approved six prime ministerial decrees and discussed measures for ensuring security and social order as well as boosting growth, according to state-run daily Vientiane Times, Thursday.

The approvals were made at a two-day meeting held at the Government Office and chaired by Lao Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong.

The meeting approved a draft presidential ordinance on granting honorable citizenship to foreigners. The ordinance went into details regarding the principles and regulations that would apply to granting citizenship to foreigners.

Also approved at the meeting was a prime ministerial decree on the immediate inspection of state investment projects. The decree would help to ensure that proper implementation of projects is also approved.

A draft amended prime ministerial decree on associations and a draft amended prime ministerial decree on foundations were also endorsed by the meeting. The two decrees will provide guidance and reference for the establishment of foundations and associations as well as their operations.

Cabinet members also approved a drafted prime ministerial decree on art performance.

The meeting also saw approval in principle of a prime ministerial decree on management of information through the internet. The cabinet has entrusted relevant sectors to act and address the problem of websites which tarnish the image of the region and undermine security.

Cabinet members also discussed amendments to the draft policy on sustainable hydroelectric development in Laos as well as Laos' draft vision for integration into the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015.

Ministries related to economic affairs were asked to take decisive action in carrying out measures to ensure economic stability. The prime minister also instructed relevant sectors to work harder in collecting revenue to meet the annual plan. Only 60 percent of revenue for this year's plan has been collected so far.

Flood and drought management officials have been instructed to broaden their operations at a provincial and district level to prepare for possible disasters. In the wake of possible disasters officials were told to take quick action to repair roads and restore the ability to transport crucial goods and services. Officials were also instructed to attach greater attention to prevention measures for wet season disease.

Officials were also reminded to declare assets in line with an announcement made by the Party and Government Inspection Authority.
