Myanmar authorities have seized counterfeit Myanmar currency notes in the denomination of 10,000 kyats at the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, a world-known tourist site in the country, the official Global New Light of Myanmar reported Friday.

The 45 fake Myanmar currency notes were confiscated from a Singaporean couple at the pagoda when they paid the entrance fee at the counter on the southern stairway of the pagoda on Wednesday, the police force was quoted as saying.

Interrogated by the police, the couple claimed that they received the kyats from two Indians at the Arcade Money Exchange Counter at the Collyer Quay of Singapore's Changi Airport on Tuesday.

The police has filed a case against the two for using counterfeit money.
