Russia will participate in a U.N. Security Council meeting concerning the situations in the Middle East and North Africa,the Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.
In a statement posed on its website, the ministry said Russia will also attend a meeting of the Middle East Quartet. Both meetings are scheduled on Monday in New York.
"We believe a detailed informal talks have been matured to assess the current situation in Palestine-Israel settlement and what has been done to implement the Quartet's statement of Sept. 23, 2011," the ministry said.
The Quartet, which groups the United Nations, the European Union, Russia and the United States, is a diplomatic group in search of a two-state solution, which means a secure Israel living in peace with an independent Palestinian State.
The last Quartet meeting was in September 2011.
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will participate in the consultations. Lavrov was also expected in Egypt this weekend to discuss the developments in Syria and Libya. |
