82 percent of Russians feel happy: poll
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-05-15 10:01

Eighty-two percent of the Russians feel happy, the All-Russia Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM) said Monday on its website.

The previous poll conducted in September 2011 showed only 66 percent of the Russians content with their lives.

The highest "happiness rate" earlier was polled in March 2008 when 77 percent of the respondents said they were happy, while the lowest level of happiness occurred in February 1992, with 42 percent of Russians feeling happy.

According to the VTsIOM, the younger a person is as well as the higher the level of one's education is, the happier he or she feels. About 30 percent of those with high education feel themselves happy; 36 percent of the happy respondents are below 35 years old.

Health and wealth are two other conditions for the Russians to be on good terms with life. Seventy-three percent of the happy respondents have no health problems and 56 percent of them are satisfied with their jobs.

Sexual harmony and family peace also play a significant role for looking at the life through the rosy glasses, with 43 and 32 percent of the optimistic respondents, respectively, have no problems in this term. However, friendship plays little role for the happiness of the Russians, according to the poll.

Only 1 percent of the respondents said they felt unhappy due to prices rise or lack of confidence in the future.

The VTsIOM polled 1,600 people in Russia's 46 regions in April.
