A new National Democratic Institute (NDI) poll released on Wednesday showed that 63 percent Georgians approved of Vano Merabishvili's appointment as their prime minister.
The NDI poll, conducted among 2,038 Georgians in early August, also found that 16 percent of the respondents disapproved of the appointment while 3 percent refused to answer.
The U.S.-based institution asked interviewees about the Georgian government's plan for the next four years and 47 percent of those polled said they had been aware of the plan while 46 percent hadn't.
Of those who know about the new government plan, 86 percent supported it while 9 percent were negative.
The NDI poll found unemployment and affordable health care are the major concerns for the public.
A total of 57 percent polled cited unemployment as the most topical issue in the South Caucasus country, while 35 percent chose affordable health care. Another 34 percent picked territorial integrity as their concern.
Seventy-seven percent of those polled said they would cast their votes if the 2012 parliamentary elections were to be conducted right now. |
