| Ukraine court orders payment to Russia for failed deal |

A Ukrainian district court in Kiev on Wednesday ruled that the government must pay Russia 380 million U.S. dollars as compensation for a failed deal between the United Energy Systems of Ukraine (UESU) and the Russian Defense Ministry.
"The claims of the Russian Defense Ministry are legal and valid, and therefore they are subject to a partial satisfaction," Judge Anatolyi Ivchenko told the court.
On September 7, the Russian Defense Ministry filed a claim to the Kiev court, demanding that Ukraine pay 392.2 million dollars for the failure to carry out a contract signed by the two sides in the 1990s.
The claim says that the UESU, which was then headed by former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, failed to deliver the agreed Ukrainian manufacturing goods for the exchange of Russian gas in accordance with the deal. |
