Belarus eyes to boost military cooperation with Russia

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko Tuesday called for bolstering military-technical cooperation with Russia during a meeting here with Russia's Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin.

"There have been accumulated a lots of issues that have to be solved in terms of the Russian defense complex and the Belarusian military-industrial complex," Lukashenko said.

"I expect it to work for the sake of our common defense space. We have virtually a common army. You know absolutely well what is going on in the world today and the threats that exist," the Belarusian president said.

For his part, Rogozin said Belarus and Russia had covered a great distance over the past year and done a good job in searching for new ways and new points of strategic partnership between the two countries.

Rogozin also noted that under the instruction of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the realization of huge number of works in compliance with the state arms program had begun. "It is not only a re-enforcement of defence capacity of Russia and its allies but a considerable attempt of new industrialization of the country, " he said.
