President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of Corse-du-Sud was shot dead at Ajaccio, capital city of France's Corsica, on Wednesday, local broadcast France Info reported.
The 60-year-old business leader, Jacques Nacer, was shot in his apparel store by a bullet fired by a sniper at the Fesch road, a pedestrian street in the downtown of Ajaccio. He died shortly after 19:00 p.m. (1800GMT).
"We expect a strong action from the government," the president of the Corsican Assembly was quoted as saying by channel BFMTV regarding to the killing of Nacer.
The attack took place shortly before the visit to Corsica by French Interior Minister Manuel Valls on Nov. 29-30 as the government is committed to the fight against organized crime on the island. |
