Russia has received applications from 99 countries and regions for the 2013 Universiade in Kazan, Deputy Director General of the Kazan-2013 Igor Sivov said Thursday.

The largest team will be from the United States, which is expected to group 600 athletes. Other major teams will include China, Japan, Poland and Britain, Sivov said.

As the host team, Russia national delegation will consist of some 1,400 people, 995 of whom will participate in all sports in the games, according to the official.

The 27th Summer Universiade in Kazan, which is scheduled from July 6 to 17 next year, will include 27 summer sports.

With 190 days left for the opening, preparation for the sports event was almost completed, Sivov told reporters.

The water palace and the football stadium with a holding capacity of 45,000 were finished and would be ready in next spring, local media reported.

A guest village in the city is ready to accommodate 14,000 people, while 73 hotels have signed agreements with organizers to serve guests and tourists during the games, according to Sivov.

Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko said earlier this month around 9,500 athletes were expected to participate in the Kazan Universiade.

Regional officials said to serve such large amount of athletes and guests will be fresh experience for the city. More than 30,000 police will provide security during the games.
