Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's proposal should be taken into account when solving the prolonged crisis, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.

Besides efficient international facilitation of the crisis in Syria and the implementation of the Geneva Communique, Russia expected relevant players to "take into consideration ideas voiced by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad" on crisis settlement, the ministry said in an online statement.

Assad's proposal reaffirmed his readiness to launch an intra-Syrian dialogue and to reform the country while respecting Syria's sovereignty and integrity, said the statement.

Moscow believed it is necessity to "move faster and with more determination toward political settlement through intra-Syrian dialogue based on international laws principals," said the ministry.

On Sunday, Assad proposed a three-point political solution, which includes ceasefire, followed by a comprehensive national dialogue conference and the establishment of a broad-based government and parliament.

The proposal was rejected by the opposition, which said Assad had sidestepped a point the opposition deemed crucial, which was to relinquish power. The United States and its allies also dismissed the speech as "disconnected from reality."

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said earlier Wednesday he would meet with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State William Burns and UN-Arab League's special envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi On Friday in Geneva. The previous such meeting was held in Geneva on Dec. 10, 2012.
