Over 11,000 servicemen are to take part in a military parade in Moscow on May 9, a Russian military officer said Monday.

A total of 11,312 servicemen will be involved in the parade on Moscow's Red Square. One hundred and one military vehicles will march past the Kremlin and eight Mi-8 helicopters will fly over the capital's main square, Col. Gen. Vladimir Chirkin said at a meeting in the Defense Ministry.

The parades to mark the victory in the Great Patriotic War in 1945 will be joined by 24 Russian cities.

Chirkin said it was the first time in three years the cadets would take part in the Russia's largest patriotic event.

"I consider that decision to be right. It would preserve years-long traditions," Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.

The First Victory Parade took place in Moscow on June 24, 1945.
