The German customs has seized nearly 700 kilograms of marijuana on the A3 highway near the southern German city of Nuremberg, the Nuremberg/Fuerth prosecutors said on Tuesday.
The 686 kilos of drugs, with a street value of about 2.7 million euros (about 3.62 million U.S. dollars), were hidden in a truck from Albania, the prosecutors told local media Nuremberg Newspaper.
It is reportedly the largest amount of marijuana find in the state of Bavaria in the last 20 years.
The 54-year-old truck driver was arrested and sits in custody for the time being, according to the prosecutors.
The Nuremberg Main Customs Office found the drugs on Oct. 30 during a routine check on the A3 highway.
Spokeswoman Antje Gabriels-Gorsolke quoted the driver as saying that the drugs were being transported obviously to the Netherlands, but the driver had no idea that he had drugs loaded in his truck.
