The Germans are opposed to extend missions of German national defence forces, or Bundeswehr, abroad, said the YouGov poll results on behalf of Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa) on Friday.

According to the poll, 45 percent of respondents hold that Germany has already done too much, while 30 percent believed that the current commitment is just right. The Bundeswehr has currently nearly 5,000 soldiers abroad.

Asked about Germany's role in the world, said in the survey, 58 percent said that the country should rather solve conflicts with diplomacy and money than with weapons. Only 20 percent said: Yes, Germany should be more commited as a NATO partner.

Half of the respondents rejects a greater involvement of the Bundeswehr in Africa, as 35 percent are in favor and the rest holds no opinion.

Only 3 percent can fully agree to the criticism that Germany had not found his role in the world yet despite its economic and political power, while 36 percent don't agree with such criticism at all and 42 percent understand it "somewhat."

German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen's plan to increase the international engagement of German national defence forces, has led in Germany to a debate on the commitment of the Bundeswehr in foreign missions.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel agreed to more intervention of Germany to "bring certain conflicts to a solution", after UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon urged Germany to make more international commitment during a meeting with Merkel in Berlin this week.

German President Joachim Gauck also said that Germany should take more responsibilities in global issues at the 50th Munich Security Conference on Friday.
