Latvian President Andris Berzins on Tuesday said any action by his country over Ukraine would be coordinated with the European Union (EU) in an interview with state television LTV.

"This plan will be fully approved by the 28 member states of the EU," Berzins said, adding that he was, however, skeptical about the results of four-party talks to be held this Thursday.

"It looks like EU foreign ministers are hoping that some sort of agreement could be made during Thursday's four-party meetings. I personally am not optimistic about this, but we will see,'' Berzins said.

Representatives of the EU, United States, Russia and Ukraine will meet in Geneva to discuss possible ways to settle the crisis in Ukraine.

On Monday, Latvian Minister of Foreign Affairs Edgars Rinkevics called for united action in support of Ukraine during an EU Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg.

Rinkevics urged the use of all measures available to the EU for normalizing the situation.
