The Norwegian government has pledged to provide 10 million Norwegian kroner (about 1.67 million U.S. dollars) for possible psychosocial intervention programs and improvement of school safety in northeastern Nigeria, from where 223 girls were kidnapped and remain missing.
Norwegian Foreign Minister Borge Brende made the pledge on Tuesday when he met supporters for the abducted girls.
"I am greatly concerned about the situation of the kidnapped girls in Nigeria. The Norwegian government strongly condemns Boko Haram's brutal abduction of schoolgirls," said the foreign minister.
Norway will also consider giving humanitarian aid to refugees and displaced people in the area, said Brende.
The girls will need psychological help when they come back, Gloria Owoses, one of the supporters, was quoted as saying.
The abduction by the militant group Boko Haram of the girls from schools in Chibok almost four week ago has created great concern over and put the spotlight on the plight of children and adolescents in northern Nigeria.
"It is disgusting and unacceptable that girls are used as merchandise in men's wars," said Owoses.
