Balkan countries would increase efficiency in the fight against organized crime like drug trafficking, Albanian Prosecutor General Adriatik Llalla said Monday.
Llalla made the remarks in his address to a regional meeting of prosecutors, the ATSH news agency reported.
The meeting showed the spirit of cooperation, which had brought positive results in the fight against organized crime, he said.
He noted that thanks to their cooperation, the prosecutors have become stronger in face of organized crime, saying the role of law enforcement institutions should be strengthened through legal arrangement.
"Criminal activities and organized crime are a regional and global problem, and this problem exceeds national boundaries. The Balkans are considered not only as a drug transit point, but also as a producer of marijuana mainly," Llalla said.
Albania produces large quantities of marijuana and is a transit point for Asian heroin, making fighting its production and traffic a top priority for the government as the country seeks to join the European Union.
