Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Pavlo Klimkin became his country's new foreign minister on Thursday after the parliament voted on several key posts.

The 46-year-old veteran diplomat, nominated by President Petro Poroshenko on Wednesday, is one of the authors of Ukraine's Association Agreement with the European Union.

Born in Kursk -- which is now part of Russia -- and educated in Moscow, he has also been representing Kiev in negotiations with Russia since earlier this month.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin told RIA Novosti news agency, "We wish the new minister success and are ready to have contact with him."

Earlier in the day, the Ukrainian parliament dismissed acting Foreign Minister Andriy Deshchytsya in the wake of a diplomatic row with Russia.

Local media filmed Deshchytsya making insulting remarks about Russian President Vladimir Putin to protesters attacking the Russian embassy in Kiev on Saturday.

The Russian Foreign Ministry accused Deshchytsya of "going beyond the bounds of propriety" and asked Kiev to dismiss him.

Also on Thursday, the Ukrainian parliament approved Valeria Gontareva as the new governor of the country's central bank. The 49-year-old businesswoman will serve a seven-year term.

It also endorsed Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Yarema as prosecutor general. The 51-year-old retired lieutenant-general once served as the chief of Kiev police and a deputy chairman of the parliamentary committee on combating corruption and organized crime.
