The Ukrainian National Security and Defence Council (NSDC) on Wednesday dismissed Western media reports that Kiev used short-range ballistic missiles against insurgents in the east of the country.
"The Ukrainian Armed Forces do not use ballistic missiles," NSDC spokesman Andriy Lysenko told reporters during a briefing in Kiev.
Lysenko said government forces "have enough weapons with less power" to use during the military operation to retake cities and towns seized by rebels.
On Tuesday, U.S. TV broadcaster CNN, citing U.S. government sources, reported that Ukraine's government forces had used short-range ballistic missiles in the previous 48 hours against the rebels seeking independence from Kiev. The report did not specify where the missiles hit or what damage they caused.
