Hungary recognized its most outstanding athletes, coaches, and team leaders at a special ceremony in Budapest on Thursday.
Swimmer Katinka Hosszu was voted the top female athlete. She broke five world records this year and earned 51 gold medals at this year's World Cup series. She also won FINA's Swimmer of the Year title this year.
Artistic gymnast Krisztian Berki, World Champion on the pommel horse, was voted top male athlete.
The Gyor women's handball team won for best team, beating out the men's modern pentathlon team for the honor.
Botond Storcz, coach of the Hungarian kayak-canoe team won the honor as best team coach, while Shane Tusup, Hosszu's coach and husband, won for best coach of an individual.
The awards were handed over during a ceremony on Thursday night attended by Istvan Simicsko, State Secretary at the Ministry of Human Resources responsible for sports and by Zsolt Borkai, president of the Hungarian Olympic Committee.
Hungarian Sportspeople of the Year awards are granted each year since 1958, according to sports journalists voting.
