Solutions to global challenges would be impossible without the participation of the emerging powers, a Kremlin spokesman said Friday.

Describing the Group of Seven (G7) as an informal club, Dmitry Peskov said the group is incapable of solving modern problems without the involvement of Russia and other BRICS countries, namely Brazil, China, India and South Africa.

"This is not a formal club or organization which someone could be admitted into or expelled from," the spokesman said.

G7 leaders earlier hinted that they might re-admit Russia into its circle if Moscow would change its policies to make them favorable to the group members.

Peskov said Russia is not craving for returning to the G7 as Moscow has participated in a series of other international organizations like the G20 and BRICS.

In March 2014, Russia was suspended from the G8 over its takeover of Crimea and alleged role in the armed conflict in Ukraine.
