Croatia said it was ready to receive more refugees as proposed by the European Commission, Croatian Interior Minister Ranko Ostojic confirmed on Thursday.

Croatia had decided to take in 550 migrants in July and it could also take in 1,064 more according to new proposed quotas by the EU, Ostojic said, adding that meant Croatia was ready to relocate a total of 1,614 migrants from Greece, Italy and Hungary.

Croatia has shown solidarity with the EU member states which were hardest hit by the refugee crisis, he said.

The refugees would be placed in a center for international protection seekers when they arrived, he added.
