NATO force joins relief operations in flood-hit Skopje
NATO's Kosovo Force (KFOR) began flood disaster relief operations in Skopje, Macedonia on Thursday following a request for support from local authorities, the security organization said.
The Macedonian capital of Skopje was hit by heavy rains and floods last Saturday evening. At least 20 people have reportedly died.
Eighteen personnel and 13 vehicles belonging to the KFOR were deployed from Kosovo to stricken areas in Skopje on Wednesday evening, according to a NATO press release.
The deployment is expected to last around 10 days.
NATO has led a peace-support operation in Kosovo since 1999, currently consisting of 4,600 troops.
