After several hours of debates, Macedonian parliament unanimously adopted Monday evening the revision of the 2016 budget, increasing it by 35 million euros (about 39 million U.S. dollars).

The additional funds will be used to fully compensate the families who were affected by floods that hit the region of Skopje in Macedonia on Aug. 6, govt sources informed.

The same sources said the budget revision doesn't foresee any changes in revenues which will remain unchanged at 174.291 million MKD (around 3.1 million U.S. dollars) while expenditures will increase from 195.472 million MKD to 197.410 million MKD.

Speaking about the motion on revising the 2016 budget, Macedonian Finance Minister Kiril Minoski said the government had made a decision to fully compensate flood hit families considering the magnitude of the natural disaster and its destructive power versus the extent of damages caused.

According to him, all residents in the crisis regions should be awarded with 100 percent flood damage compensation.

The finance minister also informed that following such amendments to 2016 budget, the budget deficit is revised to 4 percent of the GDP, standing at 23.119 million MKD instead 21.181 million MKD.

The Macedonian opposition decided to give its votes in favor of the changes to budget, saying the opposition had decided to put the interests of the citizens first.

This is the second time that 2016 budget undergoes revision, as the first was made in July. (1 U.S. dollar = 55 MKD)
