IAEA inspectors arrive in Iran: TV
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-01-29 16:34

High-ranking officials of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) arrived in Iran on Sunday morning, the satellite Press TV reported.

The chief IAEA inspector Herman Nackaerts and his team arrived in Tehran for a three-day visit to Iranian nuclear facilities, said the report.

"We are trying ... to resolve all the outstanding issues with Iran," Nackaerts said as he was about to depart Vienna airport to Tehran on Saturday.

"We are looking forward to the start of a dialogue, a dialogue that is overdue since very long," he was quoted as saying.

Iran's permanent representative to the IAEA, Ali-Asghar Soltanieh, said Friday that the main objective of IAEA inspectors' visit is to "thwart plots by enemies who are leveling unfounded allegations" against Iran and to prove that the country's nuclear program is transparent, said Press TV.

Mehdi Medizadeh, member of Iran's Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said Saturday that Iran will continue its confidence-building measures in cooperation with the IAEA.

Medizadeh said that the confidence-building measures will be the main subject of the upcoming talks with the IAEA.

Iran will announce again that its nuclear activities are " peaceful" and Iran does not intend to produce nuclear weapons, said Medizadeh.

Last November, the board of the IAEA adopted a resolution on Iran's disputed nuclear program, calling for intensified dialogue to find solutions to unresolved issues.

However, Iranian officials have since been stressing that the IAEA resolution will not stop the country's nuclear program.
