The Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement won't remain committed to ceasefire if a jailed leader on hunger strike dies, a spokesman for the group said Tuesday.
"We hold the Israeli occupation responsible for any harm to the life of Sheikh Khader Adnan," the spokesman, Daoud Shehab, told Xinhua.
"Nobody knows where things will be going if he was hurt," Shehab warned, demanding Egypt, Gaza's Hamas rulers "and all parties relevant to the (Gaza) truce" work to save Adnan's life.
Adnan has been on a hunger strike since the second day of his arrest on Dec. 17. He protests being held administratively without trial.
On Monday, an Israeli rights group said that the deteriorating health of Adnan will be in danger if he continues the hunger strike. "He does not eat and only drinks water," said the Tel Aviv- based Physicians for Human Rights.
But reports, however, said that Adnan stopped drinking water, and that Israel was studying possibilities to forcibly feed him. Enditem |
