Palestinian rivals meet in Qatar
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-02-05 21:37

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas chief Khaled Mashaal will hold another meeting Sunday evening in Qatar, sources said.

This follows a meeting that comprised the two Palestinian leader with Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani on Sunday afternoon.

Qatar hosted the rival Palestinian leaders to help implement a reconciliation agreement Egypt had brokered between them last May.

Officials from Hamas and Abbas' Fatah party will join the evening meeting, which is sought to reach an agreement on a prime minister to lead a technocratic government.

According to the deal, the technocratic government will rule the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip and the Fatah-ruled West Bank until general elections are held. The Palestinian factions agreed to hold the elections in May 2012.

The agreement aims at ending Palestinian political split, started when Hamas routed pro-Abbas forces and took over Gaza in 2007.

Official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that Abbas and Mashaal have stressed to overcome all obstacles on the way of unity.

The Sunday meeting is the fourth since Hamas and Fatah signed the reconciliation agreement in May 2011.
