Iran¡°s parliament ready to approve bill to cut oil exports to some EU states
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-02-07 19:31

Iran's Majlis (parliament) is ready to approve a bill aimed at stopping oil exports to some member states of the European Union (EU) in response to their bid to embargo Iran's oil exports, local satellite Press TV reported on Tuesday.

Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said Tuesday that Iranian lawmakers keep a watchful eye on a number of important issues including a ban on Iran's oil exports to some European countries, said the report.

The National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Majlis has been discussing the issue, he said, adding that it is necessary to give a proper response to European countries' " irrational attitude."

Larijani's remarks came as some of the Iranian lawmakers had urged Iran's legislature, in the past days, to take up a double- urgency bill on halting oil exports to some EU member states.

Earlier this month, EU leaders endorsed fresh restrictive sanction measures on Iran's oil exports, which was adopted by the bloc's foreign ministers on Jan. 23.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said Tuesday that the EU's embargo on Iran's oil exports to its member states will hit the European people.

"I think more than anybody else this is for the loss of the European people," the spokesman told reporters in his weekly press briefing.

Asking the European officials not to surrender to U.S. pressures on Iran, Mehmanparast said that to enter the political games and to give in to the U.S. pressures will endanger the security and welfare of the European people.
