Iranian leader says to continue supporting Palestinians and " resistance"
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-02-12 23:09

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said Sunday that Iran will remain with the Palestinians and their "resistance" against Israel, the local satellite Press TV reported.

"On the issue of Palestine, Iran is steadfast and sincere and will always remain by the Palestinian people and the resistance," Khamenei said during a meeting with visiting Hamas leader Ismail Haneya.

He also warned that any movement which undermines the resistance against Israel is detrimental to the future.

Haneya, for his part, hailed Iran's support for Palestinians.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi said that Iran is ready to help the Palestinian people's development in various fields, Press TV reported Sunday. Salehi made the remarks during a meeting on Saturday with Haneya, when they discussed the latest developments in the region, particularly those concerning the Palestinians.

Emphasizing the significance of unity among Palestinian factions, the Iranian foreign minister reiterated the need for Palestinian adherence to the basic principles of resistance as key factors for their victory against Israel, said Press TV.

During a meeting with Haneya in Tehran on Friday, Iranian First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Rahimi said Iran had been the supporter of the Palestinian nation and would not stop supporting the Palestinians.

Defending the oppressed people, especially the Palestinian nation, is an important factor that has been seriously taken into account by the Islamic republic, he said.

Haneya thanked Tehran's position towards the Palestinian nation, saying that the Islamic republic has been by the sides the Palestinians since the victory of the 1979 Islamic revolution.

Haneya, heading a high-ranking delegation, arrived in Tehran on Friday for talks with senior Iranian officials on a number of regional matters including the Palestinian issue.
