French FM calls for securing access to help victims in Syrian attack
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-02-22 21:44

French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe on Wednsday urged French ambassador and Syrian authorities to secure medical access to assist the journalists who were wounded in an earlier attack.

One French photo journalist and an American journalist were killed Wednesday morning when the bomb hit a media center in the Syrian city of Homs, three or more were wounded in the attack.

Jupee said he has asked the director of the cabinet to summon Syria's ambassador in Paris to express these requirements and to remind the latter of the intolerable behavior of the Syrian government.

The death of the French photographer Ochlik Remi, who was working for the magazine Paris-Match, was confirmed by French President Nicolas Sarkozy's spokeswoman Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet.

"The president gave us the sad news, which is apparently confirmed, of the two journalists and notably a French journalist, and asked the government spokeswoman to present our condolences to the families," she said.

Local media quoted Sarkozy as saying, "this shows enough is enough. The regime must go."

Remi is the second French journalist died in Syria. In January French television reporter Gilles Jacquier was killed in Syria, the first Western journalist to die since anti-regime protests erupted 11 months ago.
