22 Syrian refugees enter Turkey Saturday
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-03-04 16:58

A total of 22 Syrian refugees entered Turkey Saturday through Reyhanli town in the southern province of Hatay, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.

Reyhanli town official Yusuf Guler was quoted as saying that the group of 22 Syrian citizens included children and women who escaped from clashes in Syria.

Guler said the Syrians would be settled down at the tent camp in Reyhanli erected by the Turkish Red Crescent Aid Organization.

On Friday, 135 Syrian refugees entered Turkey through the border village of Bukulmez in Reyhanli town, according to Anatolia.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in January that Turkey was sheltering up to 10,000 Syrian refugees who fled the crisis in their homeland.

Turkey, once a close ally of Syria, has repeatedly called on Damascus to stop violence against civilians and has imposed on Syria a series of sanctions, including an arms embargo in protest of the Syrian government's alleged crackdown on opposing forces.
