PLO official: Israel wants to ignite regional fighting
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-03-15 20:34

Israel has carried some airstrikes in the Gaza Strip despite cease-fire to ignite a regional fighting, a Palestinian official said Thursday.

The aim of the fighting is to cover Israel's violations in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, separating the Gaza Strip and pushing for its responsibility to be under Egypt, said Yasser Abed Rabbo, a member of the Executive Committee of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).

"Israel wants to separate Gaza from the West Bank in order to keep it out of any Palestinian entity," he told Voice of Palestine radio.

Egypt knows the "Egyptian intentions" and that's why it pushed for a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip, Abed Rabbo said.

The cease-fire took effect Tuesday, ending four days of cross- border violence that had left 26 Palestinians dead. Palestinian militants fired dozens of rockets into Israeli communities near Gaza during the fighting.

The violence flared up when Israel killed a militant leader while he was driving his car in Gaza City.

The West Bank-based Palestinian National Authority "works to save the groups in Gaza from being victims to Israeli plans."

The cease-fire did not strictly hold as Israeli airstrikes in Gaza and Palestinian rocket attacks were recorded Wednesday and Thursday. However, the attacks caused no casualties on both sides and they were less intensive.
