Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-04-10 17:04

Commander of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Forces, Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour, said Tuesday that Iran has dismantled a " terrorist cell" affiliated to the Pakistan-based Jundullah group, the local satellite Press TV reported.

The group, which infiltrated into Iran during Iranian new year holidays (March 20-April 1) to carry out "acts of terrorism," "was completely dismantled and a number of its agents were killed," Pakpour was quoted as saying.

"They planned to conduct terrorist operations in the central and border areas of the country; however, they were stymied by the efforts of the military and security forces," he added.

The Iranian commander also said a large amount of explosives and equipment have been seized from the "terrorist group," adding that further details will be announced in future, according to the report.

In June 2010, Iran executed the ringleader of the Pakistan- based Jundullah "terrorist" group Abdolmalek Rigi following his arrest in February the same year.

The Jundullah group was founded by and had been under the command of Rigi who claimed to fight for the rights of Sunni Muslims in Iran. Iran and Pakistan said the group was behind numerous acts of terror, bombing and kidnapping.
