Danish ambassador to Israel on Monday demanded clarifications over a video in which an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) officer can be seen hitting a Danish pro- Palestinian activist with his M-16 riffle.

According to the Ha'aretz, Danish ambassador Liselotte Plesner met with an official from Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday to inquire about the incident, which took place during a pro-Palestinian protest in the Jordan Valley on Saturday.

The ministry's official told Plesner that there is an ongoing investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident, and that the officer who hit the activist in the face has been suspended until the investigation concludes.

"I can see that the soldier involved was immediately suspended and the matter is now being investigated," Danish Foreign ministry Villy Sondal told Danish media.

The contested video was filmed during a biking protest along highway 90, with more than 200 participants, staged on Sunday by the Palestinian NGO International Solidarity Movement .

In the short film, a man who was identified as Lt.-Col. Shalom Eisner can be seen hitting an activist with his M-16 rifle in the face.

Later, the video shows soldiers pushing other activists and arresting two of them.

Protesters claimed that the IDF also took their bikes and threw them on a nearby tunnel, Ha'aretz daily reported.

"We do find it a very severe incident and an investigation has been started into this matter," the IDF spokesperson unit told Xinhua.
