Israel renews administrative detention against Hamas member
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-05-01 19:15

An Israeli military court extended the administrative detention of a Hamas lawmaker for six more months, sources from the Islamic movement said Tuesday.

The ruling against Hassan Yousef, a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) from the West Bank, was made on the same day when his six-month term ended, the sources said.

Israel renewed the administrative detention against Yousef as more Palestinian prisoners joined the biggest collective huger strike, most of them in protest against administrative detention, under which hundreds of Palestinian prisoners are being held without trial or charge.

In November 2011, Yousef was arrested by Israeli forces from his house in the city of Ramallah, together with one of his sons. Two months earlier, he was freed after spending six years in jail.

Israel currently holds 27 PLC members, 24 of them representing Hamas.
