Iran will not let its rights be violated in Baghdad talks
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-05-06 22:40

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said Sunday that the Islamic republic will not let its rights be violated by the West in the upcoming nuclear talks in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, the official IRNA news agency reported.

The West is engaged in consultations with its allies prior to the Iran-P5+1 nuclear talks in Baghdad in a bid to change the atmosphere of talks and get the upper hand, Mehmanparast told IRNA.

Media reports said Sunday that U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who arrived in India on Sunday for a two-day visit, is seeking to persuade India to reduce its oil imports from Iran.

The reports said that India, under the pressure of the United States, has recently increased imports of oil from Saudi Arabia, a move aiming to make up for its potential reduction of oil imports from Iran.

U.S. President Barack Obama also ordered the treasury department on Tuesday to target foreign entities and individuals who evade the U.S. sanctions against Iran.

The West's new moves are to launch a psychological war to affect the forthcoming talks in Baghdad, Mehmanparast said, adding that such moves were unable to affect the will or decision of the Iranian people and their representatives in the talks.

The last round of nuclear talks between Iran and the UN Security Council's five permanent members -- the United States, Britain, France, Russia and China -- plus Germany (P5+1) concluded in Turkey's Istanbul in April, with all sides describing the talks as positive and agreeing to meet again in the Iraqi capital on May 23.
