Sporadic fighting still occurred on Thursday in the port city of Tripoli in northern Lebanon between the rival neighborhoods of Sunni Bab El Tebbaneh and the Alawite Jabal Mohsen.
A 13-year-old boy was killed and several people wounded Wednesday night, security sources told Xinhua.
The Lebanese Army responded with sniper fire in several neighborhoods of Tripoli as tensions continued running high after three days of bloody clashes.
At least three rocket-propelled grenades were fired on Syria Street separating the rival neighborhoods, the sources said, adding that the majority of snipers are located in the Talaat al- Omari area between the rival neighborhoods.
Sectarian violence erupted between the two rival neighborhoods last weekend after the General Security Department detained a Islamist, Shadi al-Mawlawi, on charges of having contact with a terrorist organization.
The clashes had left at least nine people dead and nearly 50 wounded before the army intervened on Tuesday to restore calm. |
