Israeli officer, soldier wounded near Gaza outskirts
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-05-23 23:36

An Israeli officer and a soldier were injured after gunmen from Gaza targeted an Israeli army force patrolling the borders between Gaza Strip and Israel, Israeli Radio reported Wednesday.

The radio, which quoted an Israeli army spokesman, said the two troops were lightly injured after their patrol was assaulted by gunmen near Kissufim crossing at the borders between eastern Gaza Strip and Israel.

The radio also said that the Israeli army force responded to the source of fire, adding that the two injured were taken to a hospital in southern Israel. No one claimed responsibility for the attack.

Earlier on Wednesday, an Israeli army force entered into the area near the fence of the borders into the Palestinian-controlled territory before the militants attacked the patrol, Palestinian security sources said.

The Israeli army had built up a 300-meter buffer zone along the borders between the Hamas-controlled coastal enclave and Israel. Israel said the zone was established to prevent attacks from Gaza on Israel.

Meanwhile, the Israeli security forces detained three armed groups in the southern West Bank city of Hebron, according to the radio, adding that one of the groups belongs to Hamas armed wing and had planned to kidnap Israeli soldiers.
