Israeli vice PM says Iran's nuclear program must be stopped
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-06-12 23:57

"Israel will not rest until Iran ends its nuclear enrichment program, sends all its nuclear fuel abroad, and closes its enrichment facility at Qom," Israeli Deputy Prime Minister in Charge of Strategic Affairs Moshe Ya'alon said Tuesday.

"As one who has experienced war and understands its significance, if there is no choice, the options come down to Iran with a bomb, or bombing (Iran) -- absolutely -- bombing. One way or another, they must be stopped," Ya'alon stressed.

However, "May it not be by war or by our hand," he said in an address before industrialists, according to Army radio.

Ya'alon's words reiterate statements by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who said last month that Iran is good at playing "chess game" in negotiations about its nuclear program.

"Obviously, nothing would be better than to see this issue resolved diplomatically. But I have seen no evidence that Iran is serious about stopping its nuclear weapons program," Netanyahu said.

The P5+1 group, the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia plus Germany, met with Iranian officials on May 23 in Baghdad, Iraq, in talks over the Islamic republic's disputed nuclear program.

"We must bring Iran to the dilemma of 'a bomb or survival'," Ya 'alon said, "We must not buy their oil. Maybe economic sanctions will bring them to the point of breakdown."

The vice prime minister also said that "we must diplomatically isolate the Iranian regime. If they are threatening to 'wipe Israel off the map' -- and they mean it -- this we can never accept."

Israel, along with many other Western countries, has accused Iran of secretly seeking the capability of making nuclear bombs, while Tehran says its nuclear program is of peaceful purposes.

The next round of talks between Iran and the P5+1 is scheduled in Moscow on June 18 and 19.
