Iran's IRGC testfires diverse missiles "successfully"
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-07-03 16:07

Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) on Tuesday "successfully" testfired a diversity of missiles on the second day of its three-day drill, the official IRNA news agency reported.

The short-range, medium-range and long-range missiles of the IRGC "successfully" targeted the hypothesized sites of a mock enemy in the central desert area of Iran, said the report.

The IRGC's aerospace division commander, Amir Ali Hajizadeh, has told reporters that in the drill, dubbed "Great Prophet 7," more than 100 hypothesized spots in the central desert would be targeted by various kinds of short-range, medium-range and long- range missiles.

Some of the IRGC's missiles can even reach 2000 km, but in the ongoing maneuver, only the ones with ranges of 300, 500, 800 and 1300 km are testfired, the semi-official Mehr news agency quoted Hajizadeh as saying on Tuesday.

The IRGC's drones carrying bombs will also participate in the drill, said Hajizadeh.

The domestically-produced missiles that are tested include Shahab1, 2, 3 (Meteor), Khalij Fars (Persian Gulf), Tondar ( Lightning), Fateh (Victor) and Zelzal (Quake) as well as Qiam ( Uprising), according to Press TV.

Hajizadeh told Fars news agency on Tuesday that in the ongoing drill, the IRGC will also test its super-modern ballistic missile capable of targeting radar facilities, adding that it "has a range of 300 km" and "will be increased soon."

"These advanced missiles can be used to target different types of missile shields, including the Zionist regime's Iron Dome," he was quoted as saying on Monday, in reference to Israel.
