Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-07-04 07:15

Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said Tuesday that the ongoing Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC)'s missile drill is aimed at providing security in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.

Mehmanparast made the remarks in his weekly press briefing. Asked about Iranian lawmakers' bill on closing the Strait of Hormuz, he said that Iran's government will implement the bill if it is turned into the law.

Iranian lawmaker Ebrahim Agha-Mohammadi said Monday that the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Iran's Majlis ( parliament) had prepared a bill which called for the closure of Hormuz Strait in the Persian Gulf in response to the recent European Union (EU) oil embargo on Iran.

The security of the Persian Gulf is significant for the Islamic republic and Iran possesses the power to provide the safety of energy supplies through the water way, Mehmanparast said on Tuesday.

On the second day of the military drill on Tuesday, the IRGC bomber drones hit their designated targets in Lut Desert of central Iran, the Press TV reported.

Earlier on Tuesday, local media reported that the IRGC " successfully" test-fired a diversity of missiles in the three-day drill.
