A Palestinian jailed in Israel suspended his longest ever hunger strike after a deal was reached with Israeli authorities ensuring his release before his prison term ends.
Akram Al-Rikhawi told his lawyer that he stopped his hunger strike after 104 days of fasting and that he will be freed in January instead of June, according to a statement issued by the Palestinian Prisoners Association.
Al-Rikhawi is the fifth Palestinian prisoner who has obtained earlier release by means of monthslong hunger strike.
In May, about 1,500 prisoners suspended a 28-day hunger strike after Egypt brokered a deal between them and the Jewish country, under which Israel should not renew the administrative imprisonment to nearly 300 Palestinians held without a charge.
However, Israel did not commit itself to all the articles of the agreement and renewed imprisonment of some of the prisoners held on administrative detention. |
